Today I want to talk about “Sugar Free” vs. “No Sugar”
Do you ever check the ingredient label on food packaging?
The items listed under ingredients not only show you what is in the “food” product but the order the items are listed will have from first to last the amount of each ingredient that is used first listed being the most to the least amount which would be the last item listed
Most food that is healthy will not require an ingredient list because it is the only ingredient
Broccoli for example is just broccoli but broccoli soup might contain over 20 ingredients with broccoli potentially being not the first listed as in the soup is mostly something else
Sugar is in maybe the majority of food products
Sugar found naturally in fruit is not the same as added sugar which is a refined product not found in nature but manufactured from sugar cane
A product that says sugar free might not contain sugar but instead of sugar a sugar substitute is added for flavor
Both sugar and sugar substitutes are not healthy
In small doses sugar is not horrible from time to time but our bodies are not meant to consume the amount of sugar found in most food these days especially artificial sweeteners and the refined sugar we call “sugar”
If you think something that says sugar free means it doesn’t contain a sugar substitute this might not be true
No sugar is only true when the ingredients do not contain sugar or any sugar substitutes
Our bodies will treat sugar substitutes as if it were sugar and sometimes substitutes are even less healthy than sugar itself
Try to find food you enjoy without refined sugar or sugar substitutes and get the sweet flavor from sugar in things like fruit which contain a natural sugar called “Fructose”
Healthy eating is something I continue to work on and I always feel better when eating healthy and I feel worse when not eating healthy
