SAINT PATRICKS DAY ☘️

MARCH 17 2025

(NOVEMBER 12 2024 MAKE UP)

GOOD MORNING TO THE SON AND THE SKY❕👋🏼

I LOVE YOU 💓

Howl you doing❓

I hope everything is GREAT with you and at home 🥰

Today for you I have a post about the holiday being observed today and that is “St. Patricks Day”.

My favorite number when growing was 17. I believe it was not for anything specific that 17 was my favorite number because there is not anything at any time in my life that is associated with 17.

If someone asked me what my “lucky” number is I would say 17 and I find it interesting that St. Patrick’s Day is on the 17th and the clover is symbolic of the holiday and luck.

I am currently not wearing anything green and according to a tradition based on American folklore I could be pinched today (Folklore refers to the traditional beliefs, customs, stories, and practices that are passed down within a culture, typically by word of mouth. It includes myths, legends, fairy tales, superstitions, and folk traditions that shape a community’s identity).

According to folklore the reason you could be pinched for not wearing green is the leprechaun is known to sneak up on people and give them a pinch. Those wearing green become invisible to leprechauns and the holiday pinch is in reference to this mythology.

Leprechauns are associated with the holiday due to the Irish connection. Leprechauns Are Based on Irish Folklore – The mischievous fairy-like creatures in Irish mythology were originally depicted as small, bearded men who made shoes and stored their gold in hidden pots.

Here are some interesting facts about St. Patrick’s Day:

1. St. Patrick Wasn’t Irish – He was actually born in Roman Britain (likely in modern-day England, Scotland, or Wales) around the late 4th or early 5th century. He was kidnapped by Irish raiders and taken to Ireland as a slave before escaping and later returning as a missionary.

2. Blue Was the Original Color – St. Patrick was historically associated with the color blue. Green became the dominant color over time due to its connection to Ireland’s lush landscape, the shamrock, and Irish nationalism.

3. The Shamrock Symbolism – According to legend, St. Patrick used the three-leaf shamrock to explain the concept of the Holy Trinity (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) while converting the Irish to Christianity.

4. The First St. Patrick’s Day Parade Was in the U.S. – The first recorded St. Patrick’s Day parade took place in St. Augustine, Florida, in 1601, organized by the Spanish colony’s Irish vicar. The more well-known New York City parade started in 1762.

5. Chicago Dyes Its River Green – Since 1962, Chicago has dyed its river green for St. Patrick’s Day using an environmentally friendly vegetable-based dye. The color lasts for about five hours.

6. Corned Beef and Cabbage Is an American Tradition – In Ireland, the traditional dish was bacon and cabbage. Irish immigrants in America substituted corned beef, which was more affordable.

7. St. Patrick Was Never Canonized as a Saint – Despite being called “Saint” Patrick, he was never officially canonized by the Catholic Church. He was venerated as a saint due to his missionary work.
