Today, for you, I have a post about my first car, a Pontiac Sunfire. Technically my first car was a Chevy S-10 or even a Cadillac DeVille before having my Sunfire but the Pontiac was the first car that I financed.

Along with the assistance of my grandma I went to the local car dealership and looked at the cars that were in my price range. Initially I was looking for something “cool” but settled on something affordable and the coolest car that I could find in my price range was the Sunfire.

It was silver and it was in good condition. I had intentions to install a premium sound system and eventually I did and ultimately that was more important to me than how the car looked.

If the car was reliable and did not have rust or dents, the thing that I thought to be what best represented my personality the most was not the car itself but how the car sounded when I was blasting my tunes driving around town.

At the time it was popular to have a “sound system” that included an amplified subwoofer that showcased the low frequencies or bass in the music. You could hear my car before you seen it turn down the street and that was how I made an entrance when pulling up to my destination.

I would even think of what song and sometimes even what specific part of a song I wanted to be playing when pulling up, having the music make my introduction to those who did not know me and to those who did a reminder who was arriving.

I have a lot of fond memories of that car and it served me well while I had it. It had a number of things wrong with it by the time it was sold and it was actually sold for more than it was worth while I was in Iraq.

The thing I probably remember most of my first car was not anything in paticular about the car but the memories of certain albums I would listen to while driving. A couple of albums that come to mind are System of a Down’s Toxicity and Tool’s Lateralus.
