Today, for you, I have a post about the game of bowling.

What I like about bowling is basically anybody can play it.

Whether you have no arms, are in a wheelchair, or even blind you can play bowling.

When at a bowling alley you will see all types of people and ages as well as hear different languages.

Kids (and some adults too) can play bumper bowling which is still bowling but no gutter hazard to avoid.

There are different types of balls with respect to weight, colors and textures but everybody starts at the same line and hits the same pins.

Even though there are only 10 pins there over 100 different scenarios you may experience after you throw the ball.

You might have 8 pins still standing but which of those pins is standing is a different look depending what two you knocked down.

Here are some interesting facts about bowling:

1. Bowling is one of the oldest sports in the world
• Archaeologists discovered bowling-like artifacts in an ancient Egyptian tomb dating back over 5,000 years.

2. There are multiple forms of bowling
• While most people think of ten-pin bowling, there are several other variations played around the world with different numbers of pins.

3. Pin count variations

Candlepin 10

Five-pin 5
Kegel (Germany) 9

• Ten-pin bowling is the most widely played in the U.S.
• Five-pin bowling is especially popular in Canada.
• Candlepin bowling (from New England) uses thinner, taller pins and smaller balls.

4. The perfect game is a score of 300
• This requires 12 consecutive strikes in a single game.

5. Bowling was once an Olympic demonstration sport
• It appeared in the 1988 Seoul Olympics, but never gained full Olympic status.

6. The ball can weigh up to 16 pounds
• The heaviest legal bowling ball used in ten-pin is 16 lbs (7.26 kg).

7. The sport has professional leagues
• Including the PBA (Professional Bowlers Association) and international equivalents.
