I hope everything is GREAT with you and at home 🥰

Today, for you, I have a post about citrus fruits (lemon, orange, lime and others).

I love me a nice juicy lemon and orange.

I have always liked lemon juice with salt and as time goes on I like oranges more and more among other citrus fruits.

They can taste just like the candy version when ripe. Freshly squeezed fruit juice is always better than anything bottled or canned.

Here are some interesting facts about citrus fruit:
1. All citrus fruits come from a few ancient species: Most of the citrus fruits we know today—like oranges, lemons, limes, and grapefruits—are hybrids derived from just a few original species, including citron, pomelo, mandarin, and papeda.
2. Oranges are technically berries: Botanically, citrus fruits are classified as hesperidia, a type of modified berry with a tough, leathery rind.
3. Vitamin C powerhouse: Citrus fruits are famously rich in vitamin C, which boosts the immune system, promotes healthy skin, and was historically used to prevent scurvy in sailors.
4. The color depends on climate: In warmer tropical regions, oranges can stay green even when ripe. The orange color we associate with ripe fruit is more typical in cooler climates.
5. Citrus oil is explosive (literally): The peel of citrus fruit contains volatile essential oils. If you squeeze an orange peel near a flame, it can create a small burst of fire due to these flammable compounds.
6. The grapefruit was an accident: It’s a hybrid of sweet orange and pomelo, first bred in Barbados in the 18th century. Its name comes from how the fruits grow in grape-like clusters.
7. Lemon trees can produce fruit all year: With the right conditions, lemon trees are everbearing, producing blossoms and fruit simultaneously at various stages of ripeness.
8. Citrus fruits float: Their peels are full of air pockets, which makes them naturally buoyant.

I did not know lemon trees can produce fruit all year but I did know that the peel of an orange can interact with an open flame when squeezing the peel next to the fire.
