HORSIN’ AROUND 🐴

JUNE 11 2025

(JANUARY 31 2024 MAKE UP)

GOOD MORNING TO THE SON AND THE SKY❕👋🏼

I LOVE YOU 💓

Howl you doing❓

I hope everything is GREAT with you and at home 🥰

Today, for you, I have a post about horses.

I do not remember the first time I was on a horse but I believe it was on the back of a pony that was attached to a pole that was apart of a “carousel” with a number of other ponies that you sometimes see at a county fair. I do remember that one of your first times on a horse was the same type of scenario.

I have gone on a few horse excursions as an adult in Michigan, Texas and my favorite time in Hawaii. It was not the horse specifically that made it my favorite time but the views while riding the horse.

I have had a horse gallop a few times but never for an extended period of time, probably less than a minute.

I like horses, they are beautiful animals and I will definitely ride a horse again in the future.

Maybe next time I am on the back of a horse I will get to experience what it feels like to ride a gallop for more than a minute 😉.

Here are some interesting facts about horses:

### 🧬 **Biological & Anatomical Facts**

1. **360° Vision (almost!)**: Horses have eyes on the sides of their heads, allowing them to see nearly 360 degrees. They do have a small blind spot directly in front and behind them.

2. **No Vomiting**: Horses can't vomit due to the structure of their digestive system. This makes colic (a digestive disorder) potentially very dangerous for them.

3. **Unique Sleep Habits**: Horses can sleep both standing up and lying down. They have a "stay apparatus" in their legs that lets them lock their legs and rest without falling over.

4. **Powerful Memory**: Horses have excellent long-term memory. They can remember people and other horses even after long periods apart.

---

### 🐎 **Behavior & Intelligence**

5. **Highly Social**: Horses are herd animals and thrive in social groups. They form strong bonds with other horses and even with humans.

6. **Complex Communication**: Horses communicate through vocalizations (whinnies, snorts), body language, and even facial expressions.

7. **Facial Recognition**: Studies have shown that horses can recognize human emotions and remember facial expressions they've seen before.

---

### 🏇 **History & Human Interaction**

8. **Domesticated \~6,000 Years Ago**: Horses were first domesticated on the steppes of Central Asia around 4,000 BCE.

9. **Cultural Importance**: Horses have been pivotal in human history—used in warfare, agriculture, transportation, and sport across almost every civilization.

10. **Horse Breeds**: There are over 350 breeds of horses, ranging from the tiny **Falabella** (about the size of a medium dog) to the giant **Shire horse**, one of the tallest and strongest.

---

### 🌍 **Record Holders**

11. **Fastest Horse**: The fastest recorded sprint by a horse was 55 mph (88.5 km/h) by a Quarter Horse.

12. **Oldest Horse**: The oldest known horse was *Old Billy*, who lived to be 62 years old in the 18th–19th century in England.
