Today, for you, I have a post about something you have interacted with many times before the light switch or more specifically an “ON/OFF” switch.

This is another post in our STEAM series (Science Technology Engineering Art Mathematics) and the ON/OFF switch being something that can be viewed with a lens that would represent each of those letters however the way in which I will be sharing today’s subject matter will relate more to the Engineering branch of STEAM.

I have created a diagram that will explain what is occurring when you flick a switch to turn “on” a light or when you are turning “off” the light.

The diagram above is illustrating the concept with a battery and a light bulb on a circuit in various states that represent what happens when the light switch is interacted with. The power is always flowing and continues to flow until you flip the switch and it prevents the energy from flowing to the object being powered yet does not remove the energy available in the home only disconnecting the object from the main power supply.

In the diagram #3 is the light switch when “ON” and #4 is the light switch when “OFF” and the circuit the light bulb and switch are on is #1 and #2 with no object that would be powered but still activating the circuit or disabling the circuit with a light switch.

I will try to make future diagrams more easy to understand with my ability to create and explain concepts using various software with the intent to make our blog more educational and interactive with less of a dependance on sources I am not creating myself.
