Today, for you, I have a post about the difference between a professional and an amateur.

A professional is someone who does a job or activity for pay and usually has special training or qualifications.

An amateur is a person who engages in an activity—such as a sport, art, or hobby—for pleasure rather than for pay or as a profession.

I believe I have previously made a similar post about professional vs amateur but today I wanted to point out what they have in common being a pursuit of mine and that is to be capable in as many things I consider important as possible.

I often highlight the significance of the concept and understanding of STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) as well as emotional awareness, kindness and the belief in oneself.

You can’t be a professional in the things I mentioned outside of STEAM per say but you can strive to have somewhat of an equivalency in those things at a level one would be a professional in anything under STEAM.

Can you be a professional kind person? Not really. But can you train and practice at the level a mathematician would in order to become a professional and the answer is yes.

You could say I would be an amateur in those types of pursuits but there are some hobbyist who are more capable than those that would be a certified professional with that hobby like a hobbyist carpenter who has no engineering credentials.

When my goal is to continue improving on who and what I am as a huMan I may not have anything to show for it other than who and what I am and that is perfectly fine.
