Today, for you, I have a post about the three oldest languages that are still commonly spoken today.

The three languages are Tamil, Greek and Hebrew.

Tamil is a language that is between 2,500 and 3,000 years old that is spoken in countries like India and Sri Lanka.

Greek is around 3,400 years old and is spoken in countries like Greece and Cyprus.

Hebrew is around 3,000 years old and is spoken around the world by Jewish communities and in the country of Israel (which has a large Jewish community).

Each of these three languages are thousands of years old yet are still commonly spoken today. Many languages that are as old as these three are no longer spoken commonly.

Of the languages I am practicing Mandarin (spoken mainly in China) is the oldest which is also thousands of years old and in some estimates among the top 3.

English is around 1,500 years old with modern English like the way we currently speak it being less than 1,000 years old.

Isn’t it interesting how different languages have been around for different amounts of time?
