Today, for you, I have a post about how many cool things that had lasting meaningful and cvrrent impact with the human experience.

THIS DAY IN HISTORY JANUARY 28:
1. The Birth of the LEGO Brick – January 28, 1958
On this day, Ole Kirk Christiansen patented the modern LEGO brick. LEGO bricks have since become one of the most famous toys in the world, allowing kids (and adults) to build anything from houses to space rockets! Imagine a world without LEGO sets!

32. The First Successful Heart Transplant – January 28, 1964
On this day, Dr. Christiaan Barnard, a South African surgeon, performed the first successful heart transplant. This was a huge medical breakthrough and changed the way doctors treat heart disease, saving countless lives over the years.

3. The Launch of the First U.S. Satellite – January 28, 1958
The United States launched its first satellite, Explorer 1, into space. This marked a significant achievement in the Space Race with the Soviet Union. Explorer 1 helped scientists discover the Van Allen radiation belts around Earth, opening new doors to space exploration.

I thought I would first share the “This Day In History” facts so you could reference them.

Legos are arguably if not definitely more popular than ever. What they looked like initially and what a “Lego” piece can look like now can be nearly identical or they only thing they have in common is the ability to connect. The Lego franchise has surely inspired many who grew up with them to take the various art forms, math and sciences present when connecting legos with intent to create something specific by applying those skills learned via playing with legos elsewhere with confidence and perhaps for a living.

The first heart transplant was obviously a huge medical achievement and has saved many lives since Dr. Barnard successfully took the once beating heart from a human no longer alive who donated that organ with the hope it may save someone and took that non beating heart and placed it into the chest of a man whose heart was removed and then restore heart function by connecting the new heart to what the old heart was previously connected to with the hope the systems (cardiovascular) will pick up where it left off with the new heart and in some cases have to electrically stimulate the heart in order to attempt restore function if the systems do not come back online after the procedure.

The first US satellite Explorer 1 was launched and similar to how big of an achievement and significant impact with human progress for medical science the heart transplant was the launch of Explorer 1 was for technology and human progress. It expanded communication abilities in addition to other types of data that is collected.

Something I thought about when considering these 3 historical facts is there was something with youth in mind as biggest demographic, the elderly would benefit most from heart transplants as a demographic and the ability to successfully launch and operate / communicate a satellite off planet is speaking to the future. All of those who achieved these amazing feats or globally influential endeavors were not youth nor the elderly.
