Today, for you, I have a post about the “Dragonfly”.

I have always liked dragonflies. They are similar to another of my favorite insects the Praying Mantis in the way that when you notice one it holds your attention.

I have seen various types and sizes of Dragonflies over the years and this morning I seen another one and decided to make a post about it.

I briefly researched what type of Dragonfly I saw (pictured below) and I believe that it is a 12 Spotted Skimmer, a species commonly found in North America.

Here are some interesting facts about Dragonflies:

✅ Ancient origins: Dragonflies have been around for over 300 million years — they existed before the dinosaurs! Some prehistoric relatives had wingspans over 2 feet (60 cm).

✅ Master fliers: Dragonflies can fly in all directions — forward, backward, straight up, and even hover like a helicopter. They can also change direction instantly.

✅ Incredible hunters: Dragonflies catch 95% of the prey they go after, making them one of the world’s most efficient hunters. They eat mosquitoes, flies, and even other dragonflies.

✅ 360° vision: Their huge compound eyes cover most of their head, giving them nearly 360-degree vision to spot prey and predators.

✅ Aquatic childhood: Dragonflies lay their eggs in water. The young (called nymphs) live underwater for months or even years before becoming adults.

✅ No stingers: Dragonflies don’t sting humans and are harmless to people — they’re beneficial because they control mosquito populations.

✅ Symbolism: In many cultures, dragonflies symbolize transformation, change, and adaptability.

Today, for you, I have a post about RGB (Red Green Blue).

I have had a thing for colored pencils lately, specifically high quality colored pencils.

I like the kind that don’t break tips easily and this has to do with how hard the core is or the “lead”.

It is hard to believe that all the different colors I have were in a single picture and you saw that picture on a tv it would only take 3 colors to be able to display each of the over 40 different colored pencils!

TVs and computer monitors commonly use just Red, Green snd Blue and combinations of those three colors in various intensities to create all color on the screen (except black which is “created” by turning off all the colors, think of it like the screen is “off” for black colors and “on” for all other colors).

There are 256 different reds, 256 different greens and 256 different blues and various combination of those three colors create all colors.

The higher the number between 0 and 255 is more pure meaning Red 0 (no red) Green 0 (no green) and Blue 255 is pure Blue.

If you had Red 255 Green 255 and Blue 0 the screen would display the color Yellow!

Pretty cool right?

Today, for you, I have a post about the spring, as in a metal spring not the season.

I wanted to do another STEAM post but about something extremely simple that also has lots of science as well. So today we will learn about the spring.

I will share some interesting facts about the spring that will be both interesting and educational. Enjoy.

✅ 1. Ancient origins
• Springs go back as far as the 15th century, when early clockmakers used them to drive mechanical clocks.
• Leonardo da Vinci is believed to have sketched spring mechanisms in his notebooks.

✅ 2. Hooke’s Law
• Most springs obey Hooke’s Law, formulated by Robert Hooke in 1676, which states that the force needed to extend or compress a spring is proportional to its change in length (within its elastic limit).

✅ 3. Made from spring steel
• Most springs are made of high-carbon steel or alloy steel, often called spring steel — known for its amazing elasticity and durability.
• Stainless steel, phosphor bronze, and even titanium are also used for specialized springs.

✅ 4. Huge variety of types
Springs aren’t just coils! There are:
• Compression springs (squish down)
• Extension springs (stretch out)
• Torsion springs (twist like a clothes pin)
• Flat springs (like leaf springs in vehicles)
• Constant force springs (like those in tape measures)

✅ 5. Super tiny to super massive
• Micro-springs in medical devices can be smaller than a grain of rice.
• Giant springs in earthquake dampers and bridge supports can be meters long.

Springs are used in:

Springs generally fail due to metal fatigue — after repeated compression/extension, tiny cracks form and eventually the metal breaks. Designers use careful calculations to make sure a spring lasts millions of cycles.

• When you compress or stretch a spring, it stores energy — which is why it bounces back when released.
• This is why they are used in wind-up toys, watches, and even retractable pens.

NASA tests specialized springs for satellites and Mars rovers, where temperature extremes can change the spring’s performance drastically. Springs have to work in -150 °C and +150 °C conditions!

Springs are hidden in everyday things you may not notice:
• Click pens
• Door hinges
• Mattresses
• Keyboards
• Cars
• Clothespins

I liked the fact about how many things have springs in them that we see and use everyday but may not notice them because they are “hidden”.

I have some pens where I have swapped the springs and ink and now have a little collection of “spare” springs. It is not always possible to switch out components of one thing into another and have it still work the way it was meant to but springs are so simple they become also versatile!

Today, for you, I have a post about my stinky shoes.

My feet do not stink. But some of my shoes are starting to stink and some of my shoes stink.

There is a reason for this.

I have been putting lots of miles in those shoes.

With the hotter weather and extended walks my feet have been sweating more and my shoes wet longer.

I rotate my shoes every day and every walk in the same day. Even with this my shoes can’t keep up with my feet.

I shower every day so my feet do not smell but putting smelly shoes on my feet obviously isn’t ideal.

I will buy some new shoes and this might be for the best reason I have ever bought new shoes… because I outworked the shoes and not my feet.

By this I mean with all the walking it has been for things that needed to get done. Whether it was back and forth to school, downtown to go to appointments that get me closer to you or even to enjoy the community these things are all good.

So I don’t mind buying some new shoes, I am sure I can find a good deal and it is for a good cause.

Today, for you, I have a post about the Armadillo.

In spanish “Armadillo” although spelled the same way is pronounced Ar-ma-dee-yo. Armadillo is originally a spanish word.

In French the word for Armadillo is Tatou and pronounced Ta-too (interesting).

I remember seeing these little guys in Texas when I lived in Austin. They are as odd as they are cute.

It moves similar to other animals of a similar size you might find in the “wild” but once it has your attention you know you aren’t looking at something typical.

Even though Texas is known for having Armadillos I seen only a few all the years I lived there.

Here are some interesting facts about the Armadillo:

🌟 1. Armadillos wear armor!
They have a tough shell like a knight to protect them from other animals.

🌟 2. “Little armored one”
Their name armadillo comes from Spanish and means “little armored one.”

🌟 3. Only one kind in the USA
There are lots of armadillo species, but only the nine-banded armadillo lives in the United States.

🌟 4. Super diggers
They love to dig for insects with their strong claws.

🌟 5. Good swimmers
Armadillos can swim and even hold their breath for up to 6 minutes!

🌟 6. Some roll into a ball
The three-banded armadillo can roll up tight like a ball to hide from danger.

🌟 7. Jump surprise
When they get scared, nine-banded armadillos can jump straight up in the air! Up to 3-4 feet!

🌟 8. Bug eaters
They eat insects like ants and termites — yummy to them!

🌟 9. Bad eyesight but great noses
They can’t see very well but can smell things very well.

🌟 10. They live in burrows
Armadillos dig tunnels underground where they sleep and stay safe.

Today, for you, I have a post about creating vibes with different types of smells.

The use of “aromatherapy” (therapeutic value in smells) is a very old concept. Some of our ancestors were aware of the value that a certain scent could have when present in various context.

One scent that helps with relaxation is the scent of Lavender. Lavender is a flower that produces a pleasant floral scent that if it were to be burned in its dried form in a bedroom (safely) or perhaps sprayed in its scent extracted form with a spray bottle onto a pillowcase, it could assist in relaxing before falling asleep perhaps increasing how quickly you were able to fall asleep once you wanted to do so.

Another scent that helps with vibe is the scent of peppermint. Peppermint is a herb that is a cross between 2 other herbs, watermint and spearmint. The smell that peppermint produces is known to promote focus and energy so if you were to have something giving off the scent of peppermint nearby when studying for school, it could help with the vibe of productivity.

Another scent that is an old and popular relaxation and cleansing scent is that of Sage. I myself am a big fan of sage because I really enjoy the smell and I also find it relaxing. There are those that believe it also helps remove negative energy and with the removal of this energy helps create and maintain a positive vibe. It is often used in yoga studios. I myself use it around my apartment and sometimes will burn dry sage near the clothes I am wearing to use it as a natural “cologne”.

We know that smells can cause us to behave in certain ways the way that coffee and bacon in the morning can produce a smell that gets people out of bed and how the scent of a fart will drive us into the corner of a room where nobody is present in order to not bring unwanted attention to ourself in association with the smell of poo.

I like to create and maintain vibes, one thing that helps with this for me that is not a scent, is the thought of YOU. You always increase the positive vibes when you are present or when the thought of you is on my mind.

Today, for you, I have a post about being the producer of music creation.

To produce music is to (according to me) create music using things that make the sounds of music like instruments, the voice and music software.

If you are creating music you are using sounds to do it.

Whether you are making those sounds yourself like playing a guitar, generating sounds using software, singing or by using prerecorded sounds and arranging those sounds you are producing music.

You could be creating a song with sounds and writing words and combining those words musically or not musically or just playing an instrument with no intent to record that performance to be heard again and you are producing and creating music.

So to produce sounds made by you or something else with a musical intent can be all that is required to be a music producer.

You do not to be an expert, know how to play an instrument or understand music theory.

You just need the intent, the ability to make musical sounds and the action combining the two to consider yourself a music producer.

I think because good or bad music is a relative opinion so is being a good or bad music producer.

If you think you are good or at the very least having fun, you are a good music producer.

Today, for you, I have a post about what being together means.

When playing video games with my friends as a kid we actually had to be together as in right next to each other in order to play games together. We either took turns using the same controller or had two controllers for each of us connected to the same console.

Today when playing a video game with another you could be on different sides of the world.

When I was a kid I remember when consoles first introduced the ability to play “4 player video games or 1-4 Player games”. You could play alone or with one, two or three other players.

This was pretty cool because it changed the vibe competing against 3 others in real time and also introduced the ability to have team vs team in 2 on 2 or even 3 vs 1.

One early game that is a good example of a 1vs1vs1vs1 (everyone man for themself or later called free for all) was a game called “Fuzion Frenzy”.

The game was a bunch of deifferwent mini games that took only a couple minutes each with points given to the players results. First place given the most points and 4th place the least.

Once you won enough points after playing enough games to get the points needed to win overall you would have the final results for 1st 2nd 3rd and 4th place overall.

It was fun for multiple reasons. You had 4 people playing at once and even if you didn’t win a mini game you could still win the game overall with enough points to reach the point limit that ends the game and the total points at the end of the game gave you the results.

Sometimes the overall winner wins 2nd place each mini game and that was enough to have the most points at the end with the other players alternating first, third and fourth place finishes.

These days you can be playing with 150 people at the same time with the internet (online gaming).

Inagine how somebody might feel if playing 4 people at the same time was cool what they might think about adding 146 more.

Pretty cool how far things have come in a short period of time.

Pretty interesting what “together” means and how that might look in that same period of time from 4 player to 150 player.
