Today for you I have a post about Caves but specifically what you might encounter in a cave and that is the Stalagmite, Stalactite and Stalagnate.

We have had post previously on our blog about caves and today’s post is focusing on a few interesting facts on some of the formations you might see in caves.

When you see the “spikes” hanging from the ceiling and sticking up from the ground you are looking at Stalagmites (from the ground up towards the ceiling, Stalactites (from the ceiling towards the ground) and sometimes Stalagmites and Stalactites join together from top to bottom and form a column known as a Stalagnate (which I just learned that word today).

Both Stalagmites and Stalactites are made in the same way.

Limestone caves have water than enters into the cave through the porous limestone (porous means that it is not “waterproof” and water will leak into the small holes “pores” that are naturally found in limestone (in addition to any cracks in the cave that may let water in that drips to the ground).

After the water drains enough to make a droplet the water drop falls containing a tiny amount of some of the minerals it passed through along the way to forming the waterdrop and lands on the ground. The water evaporates and what is left behind is the tiny bits of minerals that were contained in the water droplet. This drip by drip process leaves behind more and more minerals that begin to accumulate into a pile.

The pile contains calcite (calcium carbonate) as a result of what is left behind from the evaporated “cave water” drop (water that contained minerals during its way into the cave).

Some caves contain formations over 100,000 years old. The process to create something that would reach from the ground to the ceiling or ceiling to ground is a process that is hundreds and thousands of years to be big enough to begin taking the shape of the “spike”. It can take up to 100 years for just 1 centimeter of growth!

The same is true for Stalactites hanging from the “ceiling”. Drip by drip what is left behind is not the splash on the ground eventually stacking what is left behind after the waterdrop evaporates instead a water drop leaving behind mineral deposits on the “ceiling” to form into a Stalactite.

When Stalactites and Stalagmites join together they go from two spikes joining to eventually form a column.

When it is a column (Stalagnate) the column does not grow from drip process anymore because nothing would be able to drip down the middle of the solid column. The water instead flows down alongside the column. Each time drops run down the sides instead of growing the formation in length (vertical growth) the column grows in width drop by drop constantly extending the thickness of the column.

I have seen these cave formations before and I will see them again one day (that is the plan anyway). Maybe you will want to join the cave adventure too?

Today, for you, I have a post about the conclusion of the 2025 NFL Season wrapping up with yesterday’s Super Bowl.

As I shared yesterday, the Seattle Seahawks are the 2025 champions. The Lions did not make the playoffs after making to the NFC Championship two seasons ago and having the number 1 overall seed going into the playoffs last season.

I am optimistic for the upcoming season considering many of the Lions stars will be returning and hopefully what can be learned from this most recent season can be beneficial moving forward.

It was nice to see how many different teams were in the playoffs that we’re not projected to be there at the beginning of the season.

Many of the teams were not often recently seen in the post season and the three of the most recent teams added to the league were all in the playoffs (Panthers, Jaguars, Texans).

The season is over but only in a couple months the NFL Draft will bring in the new class of those who potentially could one of the names we will watch for years to come and remember after they are no longer in the league like Tom Brady.

Today, for you, I have a post about about SUPER BOWL 60.

First of all congratulations to the Seatle Seakhawks on winning the 2025 season and becoming the new NFL champions.

The game featured two first time quarterbacks and two head coaches making their Super Bowl debut.

The Seahawks were favored to win going into the game and they did just that.

The story mostly of Super Bowl 60 from my perspective is how well both teams defenses played. The game was without a touchdown into the third quarter of the game.

Multiple turnovers, defensive touchdowns, and stopping the offense on third down time and time again and more often than not three and outs was what seemed to be all the defenses were capable of until the second half.

Special Teams played a huge role as they often do in Super Bowl victories and the Seattle Seahawks kicker provided 15 points off field goals and 17 total points from kicks setting a Super Bowl record by making 5 field goals in a Super Bowl by a single kicker.

It was a good game from a defensive standpoint and just a football standpoint.

The game may have been observed in many ways and of all the ways my hope was that it would be an entertaining experience (a “good” game) and it was at least that.

I hope you enjoyed the game as I did in your own way and I look forward to discussing with you our thoughts and feelings surrounding this year’s Super Bowl.

THIS DAY IN HISTORY  FEBRUARY 09 2026:
The Seattle Seahawks return to the Super Bowl and defeat the team that beat them the last time they played the Super Bowl (New England Patriots). The famous interception in the end zone by Malcolm Butler off Russel Wilson when they had "Beast Mode" Marshawn Lynch available in the backfield with the ball on the 1 yard line! WOW! Now the Seahawks can let that one go! Congrats Seahawks!

Today, for you, I have a post about an organization known as “The Boy Scouts”.

The Boy Scouts as an organization had been around for roughly 80 years before I became aware of it.

.As far as I understand what they were doing prior to my awarwness of them and what they have been doing since is no different. This would be true according to the organization with respect to the intent of the organization.

As far as outside the intrepration of what it is that Boy Scouts “do” as summarized by a Boy Scout or according to the official website of what I learned today is the rebranded scouts and no longer “Boy Scouts” but however it may be summarized being the way it would be summarized all those years ago since eligibility for the consideration of others as it remains today.

My interpretation of the organization is an organization that appears to attempt o bring together those who have the ability to share life skills that increase your odds of survival in nature. Where oppurtunities to trust yourself navigating various task at hand and becoming confident with a skill as one would when practicing all the various things that take practice to get good at. What one may learn from the scouts may provide useful in some way being the thing needed by someone. Including if that someone is you.

Today, for you, I have a post about the “Water Cycle”.

Have you ever wondered why each time it rains it’s not filling up the oceans and rivers so that they overflow onto the land?

It seems like if the rain is not staying on the surface of the land but draining into the ground that eventually the ground would also be full of water and it would start to overflow as well right?

Why wouldn’t it?

The Water Cycle is why it wouldn’t.

You know the mornings you wake up and it is still early in the morning and the sun has been up for an hour or two and although it didn’t rain recently, the grass is covered in water drops and the concrete is dry?

Where did all that water covering the grass come from?

The water was there in the form of the air surrounding the grass (just like the air we breathe) already having water in it. Day’s when the relative humidity is higher you can notice the weight of the water especially if you are still with no wind. The relative humidity is the current temperature air’s capacity to hold water in the gas form at the point it can no longer do so and will turn into water if the temperature is lowered or any water is added. It feels like your clothes and skin are damp almost and the air feels heavy to breathe.

When the temperature changes in the morning and it starts to get warmer is when the water goes from one phase (gas) into another (liquid) through a process called “Condensation”.

In a nutshell condensation is as stated above the transition from gas to liquid through the shift in temperature making the grass a different cooler temperature than the surrounding air and when the warmer air makes contact with the cooler blade of grass the point of contact causes the air immediately in contact with the grass to suddenly lower its temperature towards the cooler grass causing the air to condense and squeezing out the excess water it can no longer hold (like the relative humidity example) kind of like a tiny invisible wet sponge being squeezed over a blade of grass.

That water on the grass continues to warm up until it now evaporates once again phasing into a gas the way it was previous to condensation and once evaporated it is on its way to start the cycle again by eventually condensing into a cloud.

Winter water cycles are some of the prettiest in my opinion. ❄️

Today, for you, I have a post about the concept of items that save space that were engineered with this in mind.

One example people often have when considering dealing with a certain of amount of items they want to bring with them with a certain amount of space to store those items they want to bring and what could be seen sometimes as a puzzle that needs to be solved in order to bring all the items they intended to.

The scenario is the amount of items should fit (not might fit) and if the items are packed correctly in the correct order than there will in fact be enough space to bring all that was intended but only if the proper arrangement and sequence is used to store all the items.

There may actually be multiple ways to “solve” the puzzle but all you need is one in order to bring what you intended along with you.

After solving enough of these “puzzles” you start to look at some of the tihings differently that you often bring with you.

How much space it takes up wherever it is stored was not much of a consideration when that item was acquired so long as where it would be stored once you had it.

Now when acquiring new items if it is something that is replacing a previous item you could consider a smaller option that still provides the same things as the item being replaced or if it is a new item you can have how much space it takes up in mind previous to selecting whatever you end up choosing then folding that item into what you already have in a way that it will be among the items owned unless the first that do what is intended while taking up the least amount of space to do so.

Today’s post is one of those examples of how you can learn over time but also reference something as a concept to provide some type of insight to something you have yet to experience outside the awareness of the concept.

Today, for you, I have a post about wind chimes.

You have likely heard at some point wind chimes whether it was something that may have been in the yard of a home, public place or anywhere else you may have encountered them.

I think some of my earliest memories with hearing wind chimes were at my grandparents house (both my mom and my dad’s parents) and it is nice to have nothing but the sound of the wind and the chimes to create a good vibe.

Historically it is believed that the origin of the wind chime comes from China and was used for various reasons like bringing good luck to a home and other cultural beliefs surrounding their traditions.

There are different types of chimes but all make sound when they chimes make contact with one one another.

Some chimes are made to be in tune with a certain frequency or musical scale that keeps all the sounds the chimes might make pleasant to hear and in some case can be made to actually create a sequence of sound like a song.

The materials used make a difference with how the chimes look and sound.

They are commonly made from bamboo, glass and from my experience usually metal.

The different materials have different properties that cause them to sound different with clarity and sustain (how long you hear the sound when the chimes make contact before it lowers in volume until you can no longer hear it).

Today, for you, I have a post about what is known as “Groundhog’s Day”.

Although today is in fact Groundhog’s Day I am not referring to what we have featured on our blog previously with respect to Punxsutawney Phil popping his head up from hibernation to see if it is time to come out of hibernation for sure and whether he sees his shadow or not telling him to go back to hibernation or not and with this event giving us who witness what Phil ends up doing with that awareness whether or not our winter is coming to an end or if it is going to be a long winter (of course this is no way of telling when winter will end but it is a tradition and just to be clear the Groundhog is not always correct).

Today is about a concept of living the same day over and over again and this concept is explored in a movie called “Groundhog’s Day” because the day in the life lived on repeat happens to fall on today’s holiday.

Appropriately so the main character’s name is Phil.

What I found most interesting was in a life that lives the same day over and over what was available to get done in a single day, what a single day looked like, what types of meaningful relationships can be formed in a single day, how the patterns that aren’t necessarily available to observe that become more obvious when revisiting the same context in addition to the ability to memorize the sequence of events where those patterns might emerge and finally with all a single day over and over again had to offer appeared similar to a life not lived on repeat when considering the choices that were available to Phil each and every day with the same context presenting those options and the choices Phil made resulting in sometimes a radically different day than the next among all the same days lived on repeat.

I will not spoil the end of the movie and I honestly do not remember it but it is a good watch in my opinion and Bill Murray who plays Phil is usually good in anything he is in.

The discovery of X-Rays by German scientist Wilhelm Roentgen.  While experimenting with electricity Wilhelm was able to find out with the use of a specific type of light (X-Ray) passing through a solid object allows you to capture an image of the contents within the solid object such as a bone in a leg.
