I wrote a short story for you. I hope you like it 😎

The Heart and the Shadow

There once was a child that would walk down a path everyday that went from the home to the back of the property.

One day the child was walking with the family dog down the path away from home and saw something on the path that was never there before. It was a small house.

This house was small and had a large heart on top of it.

As the child became closer to the little house the child began to hear beautiful piano music.

The child walked by the little house and the front door appeared to be open.

The dog broke its leash and ran into the little house.

The child carefully walked up to the door and called for the dog.

A woman greeted the child at the door and the child noticed the woman was a shadow.

“Is this your fury little friend?” the woman asked pointing to the dog. “Yes, sorry, the leash broke” replied the child. “No worries, I love dogs.”

The dog came outside passing the shadow woman as if it was normal to see a shadow person and the child fixed the leash and attached it to the dog.

The woman asks the child, “Do you know where I can find Sunflower seeds? If I grow a sunflower I can see myself again.”

The child thought about it and said “I will be back tomorrow if you are going to still be here”. The woman said that she would be there again and the child with fury friend on leash said goodbye and that they would be back tomorrow.

That night the child asked the mother of the home if they could get a ride to the plant store to buy some sunflower seeds. The mother agreed and took the child to the store and the child got the seeds.

The next day along the path the child with dog could see the little house was still there.

The child walked up to the front door and the woman opened the door before the child could knock. The child said “I have your seeds” and handed the seeds to the woman. The woman shed a tear that was visible and it fell to the ground.

“Thank you” said the woman. “I will be right back”. The woman came back with a glass of water and a small shovel to dig a hole. The woman dug the hole and placed a seed into the soil. The woman poured water onto the seed and it instantly grew into a beautiful sunflower.

Once the sunflower grew the woman slowly became visible once again.

The woman excused herself and went back into her house and returned smiling from ear to ear with a book. “Here, take this. I hope it brings you as much light as it did for me in my dark times”.

The child looked down and read the title of the book, “How to Play Piano”. The child told the woman to have a good night and the woman thanked the child and patted the dog on the head.

The child walked back towards home and thought how happy the woman was and it made the child happy. The child turned around to see the house only to find it was no longer there. The child looked at the dog and smirked.

LOVE TRY REPEAT is something I say about my approach to life.

Lead with LOVE. If you are leading with LOVE you will have a more fulfilling and meaningful day. If by chance you are to make a mistake that day, if you error on the side of LOVE you do not feel as bad because you weren’t trying to make a mistake. There will be times you do something that maybe is not in your best interest however in the pursuit of seeking balance, this is something that should be considered and accepted and it is still within the concept. Remaining accountable and not doing something you TRULY do not want to do is what Leading with LOVE allows. All though it is not a rule, it is what guides you. Seek to balance out your day if you feel as if you are behind (according to you) in your amount of LOVE applied.

TRY and when I say TRY I mean HONESTLY TRY. If you are giving your best effort (on that day, it changes everyday) you are not going to say at the end of the day that you could have done more, because you can always do more. Being able to say you gave an honest effort is the definition of trying when leading with LOVE.

REPEAT is the most simple yet hardest of the three. REPEAT means, LEAD WITH LOVE AND HONESTLY TRY EVERY DAY… FOREVER. If you have another day, you have another chance to lead with LOVE.

If by chance you fall out of form or stray from the approach, it is ok. Just be accountable (if only to yourself) and begin again. I call this, RETURNING TO INTENT. If your intent is to lead with LOVE and you believe you are not, ask yourself why, do what is necessary in order to once again be able to say that you are and you are back on track.

You should not feel like you have to do anything while you are a kid except be a kid.

It is a good idea to develop discipline and to have some responsibility early on (earlier the better) but this should be at a pace that doesn’t feel like work. Perhaps while doing things you normally do during your daily experience.

You can have a list of Priorities for the day and these for the most part will not often change because they are what is most important to you.

This can include what you want or need to do but if you have a priority you are saying that it is important enough to you that it should be done before other things you have in your day.

At the top of your “Priority List” I hope to see, spending time with family, having fun, learning and moving your body in a way that is fun and healthy.

What are your priorities?

Some of mine include quality sleep, hydration, nutrition (healthy eating), moving my body, being mindful (considering why, how, when and what you do and who and where you do it with), sunlight and most importantly at the top of the list, work on being a better huMan/Dad.

Always in the best way. There is no other way to think about you.

I am so LUCKY and GRATEFUL to have you in my life. Even when you are not here with me I am with you. You provide something special… drive. When I say drive I also mean direction. When I say direction I also mean oppurtunity. When I say oppurtunity I also mean a gift. When I say gift I also mean a fresh start everyday.

Each day has its own momentum and challenges. When there is something I need or want to do, if it involves you I know it will be done. I can’t say the same for other items on my priority list and that is about discipline. When it involves you it is about LOVE.

I am so PROUD of you.

And I am so PROUD because of you.

Do you like cleaning up around the house? I do not like to think about it but I actually like it while I do it. It can be relaxing. The only time it ever causes a negative vibe is when I get behind and I have to devote so much time that it is the main priority that day.

I have been doing pretty good lately but I still have yet to unpack in my new place. It will be a project itself bringing what is left in my storage unit over to the new spot. I need to donate or throw away most of it. I have moved more than once with stuff that I do not really need and the time has come to live minimally. Less clutter, more clear the mind.

The more you keep up with the cleaning the easier it is and you also have the added benefit of always living in a clean space. Cleaning up after I am done with something will allow me to spend less time doing regular deep cleanings as well.

It is not your job to clean your house but I do think it is a good idea to get in the habit of cleaning up after yourself so it isn’t a learning process when you are older.

Most men in America do not have long hair. I do. It goes down between my shoulder blades and when it is dry it sits below my neck.

I never had long hair until I was in my 30s but it was always something that I wanted to do. I had medium length and short through school, very short in the military and years after the ARMY I decided to grow it out. I am glad I did.

It can be a hassle from time to time but its worth having the hair I want.

I know some might think it is “girly” but I also shave my armpits and have painted my nails 💅 (black white and grey).

I was going to title this “Long Hair Don’t Care” but if I didn’t care I would just shave my head or never cut it all.

Hair is like an accessory to me, something you can change out without it being the primary focus yet some people take it more seriously.

It took a long time for me to grow it out in its current state and I intend to wear it at least a little while longer. However, I got to see what it was like having long hair so when I go back to short it will be because thats what I want.

What would be a hairstyle that you would like to have?

Healthy Habits. This is going to be a a topic that I will revisit and each time I will highlight something that is good for you to do on a regular basis.

Here is the definition of “Habit”.

Today’s “Healthy Habit” is going to be…

BRUSHING YOUR TEETH 😁

I was never good at doing this growing up. I was told from time to time to brush my teeth but nobody really encouraged the habit often. Now, and I mean recently, I have begun to brush my teeth more often than I have in my whole life. This past year I may have brushed my teeth more than the previous three. It is easy yet for some reason I always ignored it.

I can tell you that my teeth are much whiter and less slimy 🤮 and my breath less offensive.

You don’t have to brush them to perfection but with routine brushing you will be able to keep your perfect smiles. The next step is timing, perhaps after a meal and frequency, perhaps twice daily. You can brush more often if you like but preventing what is leftover in your mouth and teeth from sitting for too long is the point.

Preventing cavities and gum disease is done with the same effort as a clean smile and a clean smile is a healthy one.

Flossing (or cleaning in between the teeth) is really to get what the toothbrush is not able to and will prevent any leftover food from causing any trouble.

The less bacteria in your mouth due to leftover food the better.

I am going to continue making brushing my teeth a routine behavior and I am already seeing the benefit of this effort.

I hope this is not news to you and you already are practicing good oral hygiene but if not, it isn’t too late, just look at me. 🦷
